The Spanish city of Barcelona hosts the first tournament of the 2015 WEVZA Beach Volleyball Zonal Tour this weekend. The spectacular venue of “Moll de la Marina” is the idyllic stage where top teams of the Western European countries will clash for glory in this inaugural Beach Volleyball event for the Zonal Association composed by the nations of Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland.

With the breathtaking view of the “Sagrada Familia” landmark as a frame, the Moll de la Marina venue constitutes the unique setting where the first champions of the 2015 WEVZA Beach Volleyball Zonal Tour will be crowned. The tournament starts on Friday morning with the Qualification round matches, and the excitement of the best Beach Volleyball will be extended throughout the weekend until the decisive moment of the Finals, scheduled for Sunday evening.

Italian stars Mateo Ingrosso/Paolo Ingrosso, French aces Yannick Salvetti/Jean Baptiste Daguerre, Swizterland’s Mats Kovatsch/Jonas Kissling and locals Fran Tomas/Cesar Menedez head the list of participants in men’s competition, as current Spanish national runners-up Angela Lobato/Paula Soria, local duo Ester Ribera/Amaranta Fernandez, Italy’s Giulia Momol/ Daniela Gioria and  Greta Cicolari/ Margherita Bianchin, as well as Dutch teams Rimke Braakman/ Jolien Sinnema and Sophie van Gestel/ Jantine van der Vlist top the registration list in women’s tournament, in an event that will feature the participation of 96 players and 48 duos.

“This tournament is extremely special for us because we play at home,” commented local star Ester Ribera. “Our intention is to enjoy every match in front of our family and friends; we want to go game by game, just making the best of our participation in this event”, added the member of the current fourth-ranked Spanish duo.

This double-gender event distributes 1000 Euros per gender as prize money and opens an anticipated Zonal Tour that will take WEVZA Beach Volleyball teams to the cities of Rome and Montpellier in the upcoming events.
