The Spanish city of Valladolid is counting the days to the celebration of the 2015 WEVZA U19 Championship – Men and the 2015 WEVZA U16 Championship – Girls to be held next week in the Polideportivo Pisuerga sports hall.
The spectacular tournaments that will gather the national teams of the countries that constitute the Zonal Volleyball Association of Western Europe -WEVZA- took their first steps on Friday with the celebration of the inaugural press conference of the events. The ceremony of presentation was attended by the councillor of Sports of the city of Valladolid, Alberto Bustos; the general director of Sports of the Castilla y Leon region, Alfonso Lahuerta; and the president of the Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation and WEVZA president, Agustin Martin Santos.
The two tournaments are one of the most important grassroots events to be held in Spain this season. In the men’s competition, the representatives from France, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland and Spain will fight for the title in an event in which the participants will be divided into two groups of four teams; the top two squads for each pool will access the semifinals, and the winners will play the final on Sunday.
In the girls’ event, six teams will be heading into Valladolid, as the squads from The Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland and Spain will play for the U16 Championship title in a tournament that will be held in a league format, all teams playing against the rest of the contenders in five thrilling days to determine the champion of an event that will showcase the future stars of European volleyball.
The double event which is scheduled to start on Wednesday represents an excellent opportunity to corroborate the great work of the WEVZA members and it will put the young and future stars of continental volleyball in the spotlight.
