The team Cecchini-Ficosecco from Italy has earned Gold medal in the first edition of WEVZA Senior Beach Volley Event held in Palermo. The Italian squad beat Germany’s Poniawez-Poniawez in the tournament that has inaugurated the zonal Events for the Association.
The competition was hosted at Domina Coral Bay in Santa Flavia. The final victory went to the Italian team formed by Matteo Cecchini and Paolo Ficosecco, after beating 0-2 (14-21, 19-21) to Germany’s Poniewaz-Poniewaz in the Final match. The local duo relied on the technical superiority and international experience gained over the course of many international tournaments to overcome the intentions by the young German side.
In third place clash, Spain’s Francisco Marco and Christian Garcia reached the Bronze medal after beatin Italy’s Colaberardino/ Michienzi 0-2 (14:21, 6:21).
The tournament, which the local organizers Polisportiva Futura dedicated to the memory of Pina Cattarinich, who died five years ago, was possible thanks to the determination of the CP Fipav Palermo. The Provincial Committee Fipav Palermo and the POL Futura engaged to ensure that the first edition of the event will become a fixture on the international calendar, which will give prestige to volley in Sicily.
